What are the Ethical Responsibilities of a Sex Worker?
What does it mean when doing the wrong thing feels so right?
The ethics of sex work are something that have long been debated by society, by witch hunters, by jealous spouses and by every person who believes they have a right to control what someone else does with their body. We often say that sex work should be legalized or decriminalized because it’s a consensual experience between two adults in a private space; but so rarely does it stay within the four walls of a hotel room.
I’ve been thinking about this in wider terms as well, like what does it mean when someone asks you to role play in something that feels so bad it should be illegal (or perhaps it is illegal), doing drugs with clients or other girls when you know it’s the last thing they need, buying drugs for clients when you know it’s the last thing they need. Sleeping with someone after they told you about their wife’s cancer, or her insecurities after the baby was born. Smiling and wondering if someone were to treat you that way when you get married, would you be upset, or would you just shrug and say it’s just the other side of the coin now, baby girl.
